Study Tour 3 - Essex!

The third Study Tour as part of the Suffolk Design programme of events took place on Monday, 11th March 2019. A total of 18 Local Authority staff, 5 Councillors and 5 designers attended the study tour.

The tour consisted of 4 different sites, as follows: 

​

1. Brentwood School, Brentwood - 

The design of the school expansion offers a contemporary interpretation of existing 19th century buildings on the site. Three buildings celebrate the spirit of education, unfolding as a sequence of spaces for learning, socializing, and gathering. The explanatory notes can be found by clicking here.

2. The Echoes, Grays - 

Located within the Seabrooke Rise estate in Grays this landmark development acts as a catalyst for regeneration, it better integrates the estate with the town centre and wider community and improves visual connections to the riverfront. The explanatory notes can be found by clicking here.

3. St Chad's, Tilbury - 

St Chad’s is the first component of a wider masterplan which includes the nearby Broadway estate and the first development undertaken by Thurrock’s Wholly Owned Company ‘Gloriana’. The development comprises a hierarchy of avenues, streets and mews each with a distinct character and strong sense of place.

4. Bracelet Close, Corringham - 

Located within the centre of a post-war housing estate, the site of a former disused two-storey garage structure has been transformed as part of the first phase of a five-year social housing development in Thurrock.
