About The Event

Free event for Local Authorities

An ever-increasing body of research indicates that the environment in which we live is inextricably linked to our health across the life course.

Aspects of our environment that influence health and wellbeing outcomes include but are not limited to housing and neighbourhood design, types of public spaces and access to services. This shapes physical activity levels, the food we eat, travel patterns and social connectivity. If we can create places in which it is easy to have healthier behaviours, we will help prevent many illnesses, improve people’s lives and reduce health and social care costs.

This virtual event, presented by Prior + Partners, the Quality of Life Foundation, two local councils, and hosted by the Local Government Association, introduces a comprehensive report aimed at guiding councils in using their planning and public health powers to promote healthier neighbourhoods. Delegates will gain insights from a decade of policy development, understand the current powers councils hold, and learn from innovative areas showcasing effective practice.

Speakers will also discuss gaps in national policy and present actionable recommendations at a local and national level to enhance councils' ability to create vibrant, healthy communities.

Confirmed speakers: Lourdes Madigasekera-Elliott, Public Health Strategic Lead: Creating Healthy Places, East Sussex County Council John White, Economies for Healthier Lives Programme Manager, Liverpool City Region Combined Authority

This is a virtual event run on the Zoom platform.
